Huge thanks for everyone who tuned into our Cafe Chat with gravel star Yuri Hauswald and the livestream of his Lost On Purpose video and AMA with him, Niner Bikes & more!
If you’re wondering where to ride gravel bikes in northern California’s Sierra Buttes, he provides plenty of intel on routes, what to bring, bike setup, food and beer stops, and more! Here’s the full Cafe Chat recording:
“Lost On Purpose” is a short film about the Connected Communities Trail Project, a project spearheaded by the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship to link together fifteen Lost Sierra towns via existing dirt roads and new trails.

The video showcases the amazing landscape and gorgeous riding throughout the forest and mountains, hoping to attracting ecotourism, and even new residents, in order to fill the void left by vanished industries.
The massive trail project is now getting started, but as “Lost on Purpose” reveals, the good news is that hundreds of miles of dirt roads already exist connecting Susanville to Verdi, so there’s plenty of adventure to be had right now. And by the time all the singletrack connectors are added, they’re looking at 600+ miles of gravel bike and MTB nirvana.

Join Yuri and special guests for a chat about the region, lots of adventure stories, the bikes and how he packed for days of riding, plus prizes from Niner Bikes and GU Energy, surprises, and more!
